Google has launched a new feature called “What’s Happening” for select Google Business Profiles (GBP). This update gives restaurants, cafes, and bars a powerful new way to highlight time-sensitive content—like today’s specials, upcoming events, or limited-time offers—directly at the top of their profile on Google Search and Google Maps.

That means when someone looks you up, your most important updates are no longer buried. They’re the first thing people see.

What Exactly Is “What’s Happening”?

“What’s Happening” is a new section within your Google Business Profile that automatically surfaces your most recent updates—if they meet certain criteria.

You can either:

  • Create a post directly on your Google Business Profile with a timely update (like a daily special or event), or
  • Connect your Facebook, Instagram, or X (formerly Twitter) account so Google can pull your most relevant recent social content into your profile.

When eligible, these updates are featured in a new, prominent space on your GBP, making it easier for potential customers to see what's going on at your business right now.

Who Can Use This Feature?

This launch is currently limited to:

  • Single-location food and drink businesses
  • Locations in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand

That includes:

  • Restaurants
  • Cafes
  • Bars
  • Wineries
  • Breweries
  • Food trucks
  • Bakeries and more

Multi-location businesses and those in other industries are not yet eligible, but this may change over time.
