Site speed is important. In fact, seconds matter. Just 1 second of additional load time can impact your revenue from your website by XX%.
At IMEG, we are always researching and developing new ways to improve user experience and site speed for our clients. There are various ways you can decrease the load times of a website – code optimization, image optimization, server configuration, content delivery networks and much more. In September 2019, IMEG will offer new server configurations that increase site speeds by up to 40%. This speed increase will allow for faster load times for users and improve the user experience and conversion for higher return on investment with all digital marketing channels.
We will be moving our hosting infrastructure to Google Cloud Platform Compute Optimized VMs (C2). Automatic Updates and Testing
At IMEG, we love WordPress! It saves our clients time and money and, in general, it’s just a very good content management system for your website. A common pain point with using WordPress is the need to constantly update and manage plugins. There are various potential issues that come with plugin updates, such as potentially bringing down a website, UX issues and breaking core functionality. Additionally, the maintenance needed to manage plugins often leads to neglect, so plugins don’t get updated – meaning they don’t have the latest security patches, leaving users vulnerable to cyber attacks. Plugin vulnerabilities represent 56% of the known entry points for cyber attacks. With over 55,000 WordPress plugins and more added monthly, the issues aren’t going away. We wanted to solve that for our clients.
IMEG can now automatically update a website’s plugins on a scheduled interval. This system runs a Visual Regression Test (VRT) using machine learning to identify whether plugin updates passed or failed. If the VRT fails, updates are rolled back with messaging to the user about which plugin(s) contributed to the failure.
What It Does:
- Daily plugin update checks
- Helps ensure a site has the latest code and security patches for all the chosen plugins
- Updates out-of-date plugins, the most common cause of site vulnerabilities
- Visual regression testing ensures updated plugins don’t break a site or change the look/feel of it
- Automatically rolls back a site and plugin versions if the visual test fails
- Upgrade status updates are sent after each update
