Are link wheels considered Black Hat? That’s a question we’ve been hearing circling around. The first question we should answer, however, is, “What are link wheels?” We answer all that and more below!
What are Link Wheels?
A link wheel is essentially a network of websites and blogs that are joined together and linked to your website. Link wheels help your website rank on the first page of Google and was known as one of the most powerful ways to do so. Link wheels gain backlinks for your website, which are links from another website to your website.
Are Link Wheels Effective?
I must admit in the past we have implemented link wheels for clients. However, with all the updates in the Google algorithm is this still a viable link building strategy?
Link wheels take so much work and time to build, and we do not want to start building them if it is going to come back and hurt our clients in the end. If the link wheels are from a trusted neighborhood of sites they seem to still work and be effective. However, experts no longer consider link wheels an effective social media strategy. This is for one reason: There is never enough time to create multiple, high-quality, high-ranking websites that will give you the backlinks that you need. We’re not arguing that link wheels are useless, but we do believe they are limited in their ability to improve your search engine rankings.
We do not recommend using them any more and would also recommend going back and breaking the last link in the wheel if you closed the wheel on previous link wheels you created.
This is a topic we could talk a lot about, but to make a long story short, we do not think link wheels are a good idea any longer, even in small moderation.
